Microwave Noise Source Generators

Noise Sources supply white gaussian electronic noise.  The output is a flat instantaneous broadband electronic random noise.  The noise source converts a DC input to noise.  Units are available in bands between 10MHz thru 26.5 Ghz.
The noise source provides a small efficient source of RF energy.  It is highly stable over time and can operate over a wide temperature range.  It has long term stability.
ATM offers Microwave Noise Generators which can be used in a variety of applications including Noise Figure Measurement, Jamming for military purposes, and Self Test for radars and other systems.   Please call us with your requirements and discuss your needs with one of our design engineers.

Product Details:

  • Input power +28 volts, 25ma. max.
  • Input voltages as low as 15 volts are available in most models, consult factory for details.
  • Currents are typically less than 10ma
  • Noise output variation with temperature less than 0.01 DB/¡ãC
  • Noise output variation with voltage less than 0.1 dB/%V
  • Operating temperature range -55¡ãC to +85¡ãC
  • Noise output rise time and fall time < 1 usec
  • The output levels can be typically as high as -85DBM/MHz
Since noise sources have broadband output levels of power they must be rated per bandwidth.
  • Well matched noise sources typically have an output level of -99 dBM/MHz
An alternate way of rating noise output levels is in dB ENR.  The above referenced levels are approximately 30 dB ENR and 15 dB ENR respectively.  ENR is used for Excess Noise Ratio. Higher outputs can be attained by means of amplification.
Other options exist at very low frequencies.
  • Noise diode is hermetically sealed.
  • All housings can be supplied with threaded mounting holes.

Basic Relationships

 • dB ENR = 10 log((T1/T0)-1)

 • Pn = KTB

 • T0 = 290K

 • T is in degrees KELVIN

 • K = 1.38x10(-23 power)

 • B is in Hertz

 • Excess Noise Ratio = ENR
